Eye-Pad by Federico Bartolomei From electronic clinical tablet to assessment instrument of residual and rehabilitative vision. |
Low vision: the iPad is becoming a player. Following the introduction of recent applications in the health field which sees in this innovative tool an "electronic clinical tablet", specialists in the field of vision and patients themselves can now take advantage of this Apple product. Eye-Pad is a software developed at the Istituto Cavazza. Developed by the Institute's technicians, the program allows the management of the 9.7-inch multi-touch "tablet" as a residual vision assessment tool of people with low vision, basic starting point of a patient's rehab program. The innovative aspect is also the tool's rehabilitative application. The small tablet can when needed be switched to a home rehab console: the patient can, directly from home and of course always under the supervision of the rehab team monitoring the work, go through a series of exercises which, up to now, were done exclusively in a clinical setting. The development project and tests were done in collaboration with many experts at the national level. With this research, the Istituto Cavazza has the ambitious objective to improve the quality of services and treatments for people with low vision. To date, the results achieved are reassuring but the development work continues however and annual Eye-Pad Conferences are planned |
