INVAT: A Dream Come True

INVAT – National Institute for Device and Technology Assessment: A reality created to promote accessibility to technologies and the autonomy of blind and partially sighted people.
Franco Lisi

On May 31, 2017, was born the National Institute of Device and Technology Assessment, INVAT. The purpose of the Institute is to evaluate and promote devices and technical aids designed to foster personal autonomy and mobility for people living with vision loss and to address issues related to accessibility, availability and usability of technologies. INVAT's legal offices are located at the Italian Union of Blind and Partially Sighted People (UICI) on Via Borgognona in Rome and its operating offices are located at the Institute for the Blind Francesco Cavazza in Bologna. The National Institute of Device and Technology Assessment wants to pursue other important objectives such as providing consulting services to organizations and companies who are interested in universal accessibility in their workplace in order to certify their production processes. Training, information and awareness are other areas in which resources will eventually be invested.

A final hope is that our Institute can become a point of reference, a recognized national authority in the field of accessibility and technology. And only when we reach our objective in a tangible way can we say mission accomplished.
